Maria is the granddaughter of Louis Antoine Juchereau De St. Denis, the founder of Natchitoches, Louisiana. Jean Joachim Ortego was born in Spain and married Maria in Orleans Territory, USA. Most of their eight children were born in Southwest Louisiana.
