The Martel's that settled in Louisiana have their family roots with Dominique Martel (b. about
1698) and his wife Marie De La Bretonniere. Their son, Dominique Martel, Jr., grandson
Balthazar Barthelemy Martel and great grandson Balthelemy Balthazar Martel (b. 1782) are the
ancestors of all the Louisiana Martel families.
Balthelemy Balthazar Martel and his wife Louise Marie Chachere had nine children and if you are
a Martel with Louisiana roots, you can trace your family history to this couple. The Martel family
